Fall Boatyard
I’ve come to learn that boatyards and marinas have an emotional state that changes with the seasons. In spring, there is anxious energy preparing vessels for the first go ahead to “drop her in”. In summer, a routine of work and recreation. However, in fall, there is a stillness draped over everything. People slowly exit to the last man, until all that’s left is the true character of the vessels left behind. My favorite is the derelict sailboat, forgotten or abandoned. Like us, these boats have a life cycle; dependent upon the care and love of others.
